Dear Website Visitors,
In my nearly 30 years of listening to and thinking about people in work, community, and home environments, I have been privileged to see and connect with the goodness in people. I have been witness to people’s greatest and varied attempts at using their humanity and personal power to impact their environments and relationships.
It has also been disheartening to see the impact of deterioration on environments, situations, and relationships when we, the leaders of our lives and environments , feel we lack the desire, commitment, perspective or skill necessary to move things forward in well thought out, productive ways.
We are good at building cases “for/or against”, colluding, gathering support for our arguments, and many other forms of systematic processing. In many cases, we lose sight of, or don’t identify our overall purpose. We ignore feelings because we are not skilled at utilizing ours and others feelings in an empowering manner. Conversely we dramatize our feelings.
Systems of thought such as blame and punishment, competition, isolation, scarcity, to name a few, may help us feel in control and deflect the discomfort of examination, but this type of systemic thinking does not utilize our minds or encourage higher level thinking.
The most drastic impact of this way of ”managing” our lives and relationships is that we do not benefit from new information with which to create new solutions. We leave our minds behind, abandon our humanity, and arrive at conclusions, then make decisions and take actions that detract us from our overall purpose.
The complexity of most situations and relationships necessitates creative and higher level thinking and we cannot rely on previously internalized systems of thought for the answers. Our ability to solve problems and maintain healthy environments and relationships is dependent on our ability to take responsibility for what we want, and be willing to not only interpret situations, but to evolve and change them.
